Easy recording and loops on iPhone or iPod Touch
January 17th, 2009
The iPhone or iPod touch is an extremely powerful piece of hardware, so it stands to reason that music processing software would eventually show up on this platform. I’ve seen guys using iPods to enhance their solo performances with pre-recorded backup tracks, but Loopy, from Tzi Software, takes the cake. Currently at version 1.1, and sporting more features than I can list here, Loopy’s developer promises even more goodies in coming releases:
The most demanded features so far have been:
- Lead-in recording
- A better metronome/timing mechanism, more adjustable, and with the ability to adjust tempo mid-session
- A limiter
- Panning support
- The ability to import loops
I’m in complete agreement that these would be useful features, and will be working to include them all in the next release of Loopy.
Other things currently on the to-do list include:
- More tracks, with home-screen-esque swipe functionality to access other pages of tracks
- Undo functionality
- Gate functionality and perhaps mixing improvements to limit noise
- A track editor, to tweak timing, and possibly ADSR envelope functionality

[...] For the musician in all of us, there’s Loopy, an easy music construction app for the iPhone. Along with Ocarina, which allows you to broadcast flute-like melodies over the net in a social community, Loopy has taken a permament spot in my iPhone music toolkit. Check out the deets over at StudioRoll.
